Glenrothes Camera Club was established in the mid 1960’s and has played a part in the history of Glenrothes by providing photographs and images of local architecture and people for many of the towns exhibitions and presentations.
We own our clubrooms and this means that we can use them whenever we want – time and date are no restriction – except, of course for Thursday evenings.
We are a very easy going and friendly club with on average 25-30 active members, male and female, young and old.
Our doors are open to almost anyone with an interest in photography. No experience is necessary. Just enthusiasm and preferably a camera will be enough. Any type of camera will do. The latest gear is not essential, having a camera is the first step to being a photographer – it is NOT about following fashion, it IS about having fun.
Our season runs from the beginning of September through to the end of April. During the season we usually have presentations, competitions, studio sessions, an auction, an exhibition and general discussions. Whatever the members want, we will try to provide during the year. There is also the opportunity for additional meetings to take place during the week and at weekends.
In the off season (May to August) we still meet regularly on a Thursday evening and, while we are not a training establishment, we can provide informal basic instruction for beginners during this time and advise you on where to go for more advanced tuition. We are also able to run courses in studio lighting and techniques. If you want to learn – we want to help you. When the weather permits we also organise evening photography trips, and on occasion organise Outlander Trips – special day trips – to sites of special photographic interest (i.e. castles, nature reserves, festivals)
Our members interests range over many subjects – Portraiture, Landscape, Nature, Natural History, Macro, Table Top, Still Life – you name it, someone in the club has tried it or has become our “local expert”!
We cater for most age groups. Our membership has included members from 18 to 70+ years. Discretionary Family Membership may be extended to Juniors aged 14 and over with special provisions. Age should be no barrier to photography.
So – if you are interested, why not come along one Thursday evening and we can have a chat over a coffee and show you around our facilities and meet some of the members.
We look forward to meeting you.
